Hattiesburg veteran featured in new Vietnam documentary

Posted: Updated:

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - 2 Hattiesburg men have played key roles in the production of a new documentary series about the Vietnam War. Southern Miss history professor Dr. Andrew Wiest and Vietnam veteran Charles J. Brown assisted on the upcoming History Channel series Vietnam in HD.

Episode 2 of the 6-part series was shown Tuesday night at the Lake Terrace Convention to a gathering of veterans, city officials and other members of the Hattiesburg community. It features the combat experiences of Brown during his service in 1967.

Dr. Wiest served as lead historian for the project.

"This is unbelievable," said Brown, concerning the large turnout at the event. "But, it's such a heartfelt, humbling experience for your hometown to show out in such a number," he said.

"It is so great to see it finally done, to see it all put together," said Wiest. "It really is the best Vietnam documentary I've ever seen and I'm not saying that just because I was involved in it," he said.

The series begins airing on Nov. 8.
