LOUISVILLE (WAVE) - Gas prices have begun to slide in some areas, but expectations are that they will once again approach the four-dollar mark before long. So, we're all looking for any way we can to save money, and your Smart phone may actually be able to help, at least a little, when it comes to relieving the pain at the pump.

There's new app's out there that can help you save on gas. Smart phone app's like 'Gas Buddy' might end up being this year's most popular. This app can allow the user to check for the cheapest gas prices in any given area. The information comes from like-minded consumers utilizing a concept called crowd-sourcing, according to CNET Editor Brian Cooley.

"Crowd sourcing means people like you who have the app installed when you go to a gas station while you're filling up you say 'uh, I got a second or two, I'll enter the gas prices at this gas station and then everyone else can see that information."

Apple's app for the I-Phone is called 'Fuel Finder', but relies on 'Gas Buddy' for its information, which is constantly being updated from people standing right at the gas pump.

"I think the real value here is that you're going to get a very community oriented take on where the cheapest gas is in a way that only thousands of real eyeballs in the street could ever do," says Cooley.

These app's cost very little or nothing at all, and a serious upswing in use is expected if gas prices go even higher.
