An arrest has been made in the March murder of Helena resident Charles Mason. Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd says St. Martin resident Donna Freeman has been arrested and charged with capital murder.
Charles Mason, 86, was found shot to death inside his home in March. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department has been investigating the case in the months since. Mason had a junkyard business.
"There's been a lot of controversy out there at Mason's Junkyard," Sheriff Byrd said at the start of the investigation. "We have recovered numerous stolen items, we've had numerous meth labs that have been cleaned up out there, people arrested for manufacturing meth. So, we are not sure at this point if its drug related, or not. We have two people that we have brought in as persons of interest and have been questioning them, and there's another person we're looking for at this time."
The announcement of the arrest came at press conference Saturday afternoon. WLOX will have more details as they become available.
