Mississippi salutes its tourism partners

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Congratulations to Linda Hornsby.  The Mississippi Tourism Association recognized Hornsby on Tuesday with the Tourism Achievement Award.  The award recognizes an industry leader around the state who strives each day to promote Mississippi tourism and to attract visitors to the state.

Hornsby received her award at the annual Governor's Conference on Tourism.

The Mississippi Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau also got recognition on Tuesday.  It earned the distinction as the CVB of the Year for large market offices.

In a news release sent out to announce the award, state tourism director Mary Beth Wilkerson said, "It's such an honor and privilege to recognize these outstanding individuals and organizations that have gone above and beyond to promote Mississippi tourism.  We are especially proud to have the opportunity to recognize the leaders in Mississippi state government who work tirelessly on behalf of the tourism industry and are among our greatest ambassadors."

Governmental Friend of Tourism Award: State Representative Steve Holland - District 16, Lee County

Tourism Achievement Award: Linda Hornsby and the Mississippi Hotel & Lodging Association

Tourism Promotion of the Year Award: Expose Yourself to Craft Reveal, Craftsmen's Guild of Mississippi

Mississippi Travel Attraction of the Year Award: Mississippi Children's Museum, Jackson, Miss.

Small Festival/Event of the Year Award: Robert Johnson's 100th Birthday Celebration, Greenwood, Miss.

Large Festival/Event of the Year Award: Chimneyville Crafts Festival, Jackson, Miss.

CVB of the Year Award, $0-$249,000: Holly Springs Tourism & Recreation Bureau

CVB of the Year Award, $250,000-$499,000: Greenwood Convention & Visitors Bureau

CVB of the Year Award, $500,000-$749,000: Corinth Area Convention & Visitors Bureau

CVB of the Year Award, $750,000 & Over: Mississippi Gulf Coast Convention & Visitors Bureau

MTA Member of the Year Award: Kim Thomas, Harrah's Casino - Tunica
