Ingalls awarded $697.6M Navy contract

PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - There's good news for Mississippi's largest single private employer. Ingalls Shipyards has been awarded another multi-million dollar Navy contract. It's the fourth since the company spun-off from Northrop Grumman last spring.

Monday, the Navy selected Ingalls to build its 30th Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, the DDG-114. The contract is worth $697.6 million.

The Navy also revealed the value of the another destroyer contract announced in June - $783 million for DDG 113.

Ingalls leaders say this future work, along with the seven ships currently under construction, mean stability for the workforce in Pascagoula, Gulfport and New Orleans.
