Smoke and Coast Guard vessels seen in the Mississippi Sound Thursday morning are no cause for alarm. A spokesman for the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Gulfport told WLOX News the Coast Guard Auxiliary is just training.
The exercise involves boats and aircraft, including a helicopter and a plane. The plane has dropped smoke flares into the water as part of the training.
The Coast Guard says the training is a regular part of the USCG and Auxiliary readiness.
