GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Nearly 90 American war heroes have arrived at the nation's capital today. The Honor Flight is taking these World War II veterans to Washington, D.C., so they can see the monument built in their honor.

A caravan of local police cars led three buses to Gulfport Biloxi International Airport.  On those buses were 88 World War II veterans. They're part of the latest group of war heroes to take this amazing one day trip to Washington.

On that flight is WLOX News Anchor Jeff Lawson.  He'll report on the veterans aboard this Honor Flight, capturing their emotions as they see the monument, and relive moments from their past they may have forgotten.

A special Project Homefront will air on Thursday from the World War II monument.  Jeff will also share pictures from the Honor Flight trip on the WLOX Facebook wall, and on WLOX.com.
