BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Marine Patrol officers seized thousands of pounds of shrimp caught in federal waters Wednesday because they say the boat operator was working without a permit.

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources' Marine Patrol boarded the Sally Kim IV to check for Turtle Excluder Devices (TEDs). Despite having 4,000 pounds of shrimp on board, the officers said the operator did not have a permit to shrimp in federal waters. They also found two Atlantic Angel sharks, which are a prohibited species.

The vessel was escorted back to safe harbor by Marine Patrol Officer Brian Wallace who was serving as captain for the day patrol. The case is being transferred to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for judgment.
