GILBERT, AZ (CBS5/AP) -

A Gilbert woman has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for abusing her adopted 10-year-old son.

Judge Roger Brodman sentenced Jennifer Louise Barnes, 41, on Friday in Maricopa Court. She'll also have a lifetime of probation.

Barnes pleaded guilty to two counts of child abuse. As part of a plea deal, counts three through 13 will be dismissed.

According to court documents, the child was abused with a lighter, toothbrush and curling iron. The boy told investigators that Barnes allegedly forced dog feces into his mouth and then taped it shut using duct tape.

The incidents happened sometime between May 1, 2010 and Aug. 22, 2011.

Barnes was interviewed Sept. 8 and said she was the victim's sole caregiver during the time period, yet had no knowledge of the injuries or scars.
