Beach workers restoring 26 miles of beach

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Birds are flying, people are hanging out at the beach and Harrison County sand beach workers have begun the monumental task of restoring the 26 miles of beach after Tropical Storm Lee left behind a big mess.

The holiday weekend storm littered the shoreline with countless tons of sea grass and assorted marine debris. Sand Beach director Chuck Loftis says the clean-up will take at least two weeks.

Steve Phillips is working on finding out more about the sand clean-up now. Be sure to catch his full story on our 5 p.m. show this evening.
