United Way helps the community's helpers

PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) -

The United Way of Jackson and George Counties is helping the helpers. The organization awarded community impact grants to seven non-profit agencies.

The recipients include:

The Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County - $10,000 for new computer labs in the Pascagoula and Ocean Springs chapters.

Jackson County CASA - $10,000 for volunteer training sessions.

Citizens Against Needless Death in Youth - $638 for Bully Beware and Healthy Habits for Life programs.

Youth For Christ - $4,500 for sound equipment for Campus Life programs at four Jackson County schools.

YMCA - $6,600 to hire an instructor-coach and purchase equipment for double Dutch physical activity program to fight childhood obesity.

Samaritan's Purse - $8,500 to buy food for pantry.

St. Vincent DePaul Society - $9,600 to help residents of east Jackson County pay their electric bills in the summer months.
