Tropical weather could soak south Mississippi

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - WLOX meteorologists are keeping a close eye on the Gulf of Mexico.  There's a low pressure system over the gulf that forecasters say could become a tropical depression by the weekend.  However, it's too soon to tell exactly how it will affect Gulf Coast residents and businesses.

For now a coastal flood watch is posted for south Mississippi.  This system will likely bring higher than normal tides and high winds along the coast.

Right now, almost all of the spaghetti models show this system moving toward western Louisiana and Texas.  However, that track could change.  So, you need to monitor our WLOX 24/7 weather team, and to get the latest storm information.

This is a great time to remind Android users that a WLOX weather app can be downloaded on your smart phones.  If you have an iPhone or a Blackberry, we urge you to download the WLOX News app.  It will keep you up-to-date on any tropical weather activity.

WLOX is also now sending news, weather, and sports alerts by text. Click here to learn more about which alerts are available and how you can sign up.

Of course, the WLOX Facebook page and our Twitter accounts are social media tools we'll use to keep you informed on the latest weather information.
