All eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 in Gautier are now open after a fiery six car pile-up shut down the road for about five hours.
The accident Wednesday afternoon cost five people their lives, including a child. It happened about a mile and a half east of Highway 57 in the eastbound lanes.
According to Gautier Police, the six vehicles involved included three full sized pickup trucks, one of which was pulling a horse trailer; a minivan with the now deceased mother and her child; a sedan and an 18-wheeler. A horse inside the trailer also died.
Four of the surviving accident victims were taken to nearby hospitals. One adult and a child are in stable condition at Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula. Another child and adult are in stable condition at Ocean Springs Hospital.
