Jackson County Home Fire Claims One Life

A woman died Wednesday in the Three Rivers Community of Jackson County when the mobile home she was in caught fire. A man and a three year old boy were also inside the Lampkin Road home. Both are in critical condition.

Kim Versiga,  with the Jackson County Sheriffs' Department, says the call alerting authorities came in around 1pm Wednesday afternoon.

"We were called by some passing motorists that were flagged down by one of the victims at the roadway," Versiga said.

It took East Central firefighters just a few short minutes to put the flames out, but a man, a woman, and a toddler were all burned in the fire.

"We have an adult male who was transported to the hospital, a three year old child that was transported to the hospital, and we have a female victim that did not make it," Versiga said.

The two survivors have severe burns. The man is at Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula. An air ambulance took the three year old to the University of South Alabama's Burn Center.
