GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A Gulfport man accused of beating his pregnant ex-girlfriend to death won't be tried for the crime. The charges were dismissed against Kevin Crockett, 42, after a grand jury found there wasn't enough evidence to indict him.
Crockett was arrested after the beating of 28-year-old Taneka Johnson. Michael Crosby, Crockett's attorney, said there was no evidence linking Crockett to the crime, so the grand jury did the right thing by dismissing the charges.
Crockett had been held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center since his arrest. He was released Monday.
