South Mississippi weekend whereabouts August 26th - 28th

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

Begin Saturday on the right foot with a walk on the bridge. In commemoration of Hurricane Katrina Coast Young Professionals is holding the annual Walking on Water bridge walk. Lace up your shoes and bring a can good item with you to help replenish local pantries. The walk begins at 8a.m.

City of Gulfport employees have compiled some great items you can take home Saturday. There is a big garage sale slated for the VFW on 23rd Avenue and all the proceeds will go to The American Heart Association. Come take a look between 7a.m. and noon.

Learn about life down under in Bennett Bayou. The Pascagoula River Basin is taking an inventory of the many fish, shrimp and other critters that live in the estuary and in the process they want you to come out and learn about what they find. Head on over the Pascagoula River Audubon Center Saturday beginning at 10a.m.

Get fed at The Shed and enjoy the sounds of blues. It's the Shedhead Blues Festival and it marks a big milestone for the restaurant, hard to believe but it's been 10 years since The Shed began as a tinny BBQ take out on Highway 57. The festival is Saturday from 2p.m. until 11p.m.

Giddy up for the National Barrel Horse Association as they saddle up for a barrel race. It will be an exciting event to watch as the horses attempt to outdo each other and be the fastest without knocking over the barrels. It's free to watch at the Harrison County Fairgrounds Saturday beginning at 3.p.m.

The Mississippi Roller Girls will take on the Skateful Dead Saturday. Come give them your support as the christen the newly renovated Harrison County Skatepark. The girls will step into the rink at 7p.m.

South Mississippi Muslims are practicing their faith by extending a helping hand to those in need. Sunday between 8a.m. and noon head on over to the Islamic Center for a food and clothing giveaway.

Everyone can use a little extra cash or a new hobby, why not try blogging? Freelance writer Ellis Anderson is holding a seminar Sunday to help those wanting to learn more about this fun way to express your thoughts. The Walter Anderson Museum of Art is the place to be Sunday beginning at 2p.m.
