Polls open so voters can choose party nominees

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The polls have opened.  And voters are being asked to return to their precincts to participate in the Vote 2011 runoff elections.

The key races on ballots today include the democrat's nominee for governor.  Democrats will choose between Johnny DuPree and Bill Luckett.  The winner will meet republican Phil Bryant in November's general election.

Republicans also have a statewide race at stake today.  Lynn Fitch and Lee Yancey want to be the party nominee for state treasurer.  The winner of this runoff meets Connie Moran in November.

Two legislative seats will be decided by the end of the night.  In west Gulfport and  Bayou View, republican voters will choose either incumbent Roger Ishee or his challenger Greg Haney.  The winner of this District 118 runoff has no opposition in November.

It's the same story in District 119.  Richard Marsh and Sonya Williams-Barnes both want to replace Frances Fredericks in the House of Representatives.  Democrats will select a winner during today's runoff.

Remember, if you voted in the August 2 primary, and you go to the polls today, you must vote in the same party primary.  You can't cross over.  However, if you missed the August 2 election, you can vote in either party's runoff.
