CAMP SHELBY, MS (WDAM) - A Sumrall Vietnam veteran has finally been presented one the Army's top honors for bravery 43 years after he was first notified that he had received the award.
Steve L. Bounds was presented the Silver Star at Camp Shelby Thursday.
In 1968, Bounds was told he had been awarded the medal for risking his life to successfully restore communication lines during combat. But before he could receive it, he went home on a hardship discharge.
