HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Afternoon thunderstorms downed trees and knocked out power in parts of Harrison County.
Emergency Management Director Rupert Lacy told WLOX News strong winds took down some power lines in Biloxi's Woolmarket community around 2:50 p.m. WLOX Meteorologist Carrie Duncan said the National Weather Service recorded wind gusts up to 45 mph.
WLOX also received reports the people in the Seaway Road area of Gulfport spotted a funnel cloud. Lacy said as the heaviest part of the storm moved through, he was on the phone with a Harrison County Sheriff's deputy who reported seeing a funnel cloud near Highway 605 & Highway 67.
The National Weather Service, however, saw no indication of rotation and there's been no report of a funnel could touching down.
The wind was enough to down a number of trees and limbs. Lacy said, "The water table is still low. Since it's been so dry, we've seen more tree limbs and trees downed."
