ST. MARTIN, MS (WLOX) - Jackson County supervisors have shot down plans for a multi-million marina in St. Martin.
Board President Melton Harris said the developer wanted to build a 21 slip marina and a restaurant on St. Martin Bayou. The planning department had already voted six to one against the plan.
Harris said the board upheld the vote because many citizens complained about the project, and they agreed it wasn't in harmony with a residential area.
"The boats coming in the area is going to be a problem," Harris said. "If we were to have another hurricane, there would be residents in the area, and that could possibly cause a problem with some boats washing into houses and things of that sort."
The cost of the proposed project was $12 million.
