GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Coast native Steve Simpson kicked off his campaign tour for state attorney general Monday morning. Simpson and his supporters gathered at Triplett-Day Drug Store in Gulfport.
The former Harrison County judge was most recently serving as the state's public safety commissioner, a job he had to resign in order to run for attorney general.
He said candidates tend to focus on education, the economy and job creation, but he feels there is much more we need to focus on.
"Public safety is my number one issue," Simpson told WLOX News. "As the Attorney General, I want to restore the people's confidence in our legal system, our judicial system. I want to take on Washington and protect Mississippians from unfunded federal mandates like Obama Care that Mississippians don't want and can't afford."
Simpson is spending Monday campaigning on the Gulf Coast. Tuesday, he will visit folks in Starkville.
