Sheriff: Couple charged with DUI left baby home alone

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A Pass Christian couple arrested for DUI this week also stand accused of leaving their two-month-old daughter at home alone.

Michael Barfield, 32, and Heather Barfield, 24, were first arrested in Hancock County Tuesday night at the scene of an accident. Both were charged with DUI and other traffic offenses.

During their investigation, the Hancock County sheriff's deputies learned that the couple may have left their infant daughter at home without care or supervision. Deputies were immediately sent to the home at the end of South Battle Road in Pass Christian. That's where they found the two-month-old lying on the couch crying.

The baby girl was taken to the hospital for observation, while mom and dad were taken to jail. Both are charged with Misdemeanor Child Neglect.

The Barfields are being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center under a $3,000 cash bond.
