Man arrested, charged with beating homeless man

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - On Wednesday around 1:30 p.m., the Biloxi Police Department arrested 44-year-old Michael Gillich, III, of Biloxi and charged him with aggravated assault.

Police were investigating an assault of a 51-year-old homeless man who was walking north bound on Veterans Avenue between 8 and 9 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Further investigation revealed that the victim was "pistol whipped" by being struck in the back of the head with a hand gun and knocked to the ground by Gillich III.

Once on the ground, the victim was then kicked several times to the upper body, head and face causing a fracture to his skull, a broken jaw, a broken right wrist and teeth being dislodged. The victim was later treated and released at the Biloxi Regional Hospital.

An arrest warrant charging Michael Gillich III was issued by Judge Albert Fountain, who then set bond at $50,000.

Gillich III was arrested and provided an initial appearance where his bond was reduced to $2,500.
