BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - Ricky Stone has been named the new Head Basketball Coach at St. Stanislaus. Stone will replace Jay Ladner, who left the Bay St. Louis school to coach at his alma mater, Oak Grove High School.
St. Stanislaus Principal Patrick McGrath said it wasn't easy to replace Coach Ladner, whose career at SSC spanned two decades and brought a State Championship to the school. But Coach Stone has a few state championships under his belt as well.
"In Coach Ricky Stone, we found the basketball pedigree that we have come to expect from our program along with the understanding of our deeper mission - to form young men of character," McGrath said. "We are very pleased to have this experienced and caring coach join the Rock-A-Chaw family and look forward to many successes on and off the court in the coming years."
Coach Stone started his coaching career 28 years ago at his alma mater, Stone County High School. After an eight year stint and a State Championship, he took a job at MS State University as Assistant Basketball Coach, where he worked and resided for six years.
Deciding that college coaching took too much time from his family, Ricky went back to the high school level at Harrison Central High School, where he coached both boys and girls teams. During his 10 year tenure at Harrison Central, he took two more state championships, one in boys and one in girls.
His final four years of coaching were spent at Gulfport High School, where he retired after the 2010-2011 school year.
Ricky and his wife, Tammy reside in Wiggins and have three children.
The 2011 Rock-A-Chaws compiled a 34-2 overall record, the MS 4A State Championship, 4A South State Championship, Division 8-4A Title.
