State auditor: Nearly $1M recovered last FY

JACKSON, MS (AP) - The state auditor's office recovered nearly $1 million in misappropriated or misspent funds during the fiscal year that ended June 30.

The Clarion-Ledger reports that a report released last week by State Auditor Stacey Pickering shows that the total recovered from public employees and state officials was about $934,700. The report details dozens of cases statewide, how much was collected or what repayment is owed.

Money was recovered in cases involving large and small amounts - from 35 cents for an unspecified piece of missing equipment involving a state Department of Public Safety employee to a $1.2 million embezzlement case involving a now-deceased accounting clerk in Jackson County.
