GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -
Gulfport Police just reported the suspect they believe is responsible for the robbery at Whitney Bank was captured at around 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said the suspect is 24-year-old Markis White. White was found in Tangipahoa Parish in Louisiana on Wednesday. He has been taken into custody and is currently awaiting extradition.
The robbery happened at around 4 p.m. Tuesday. Gulfport Police responded to an armed robbery at the Whitney Bank located at 573 Courthouse Road. According to Gulfport Police, the robber fled the bank on foot with an undetermined amount of cash.
Police said after the man robbed the bank, he ran through the Hardy Court Shopping Center. A witness saw the suspect, then saw the surveillance picture on WLOX News and called police.
That helped investigators identify White as their suspect, and find his home address in Independence, LA. They also found that White had ties to Tangipahoa Parish. Gulfport police then asked for assistance from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Department.
Gulfport police said he was found at either a retail store or hotel. Gulfport investigators are on their way to Louisiana where White is awaiting extradition.
