Coast Guard commandant tours Ingalls

PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) -

A new fleet of Coast Guard cutters is being constructed at Ingalls shipyard.  One of the ships being built is the Stratton.  Today, Coast Guard Commandant Robert Papp is at Ingalls to get a first hand look at what Pascagoula shipyard workers are creating.

The tour will give the commandant a status report on construction efforts.  He'll also get to see the capabilities of the security cutter.  And we're told he'll use the visit to promote the need for more of these Coast Guard vessels.

When the Stratton was commissioned, First Lady Michelle Obama was its sponsor.

Danielle Thomas is with Commandant Papp today on his tour of Ingalls.  Look for her report on WLOX News at 6:00, and later today on WLOX.com.
