New Orleans Saints training camp news and contract agreements

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WLOX) -  New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton released the training camp practice schedule on Wednesday.  The first practice is slated for 8:50 Friday morning and will run through 11:30.  The practice will be open to the public.

That same one-a-day practice schedule will run through next Tuesday before the players get a day off next Wednesday.

Great news.  Veteran wide receiver Lance Moore agreed to a five-year deal.  Moore hauled in 66 passes for 763 yards and 8 touchdowns last season.  He decided to return to New Orleans thanks to the presence of quarterback Drew Brees.  Moore is a valuable cog in the Saints high-octane offense making the tough catches.  No doubt he has become the saints most reliable receiver.

Veteran free agent linebacker Will Herring of the Seattle Seahawks, someone who helped beat the Saints in the playoffs last season, has agreed to terms with New Orleans.  That leaves linebacker Scott Shanle hanging by a loose thread.

The Saints agreed to terms with 20 undrafted rookie free agents on Wednesday.  Among those who will be in that number...Fresno State quarterback Ryan Colburn, Southern Cal running back C.J. Gable, Texas receiver John Chiles and Illinois receiver Jarred Fayson.

Head coach Sean Payton, quarterback Drew Brees and linebacker Jonathan Vilma will meet with the media Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in the Saints media workroom.  They will discuss the start of training camp.

WLOX sports reporter and anchor Dave Schroeder and I will be in Metairie for the briefing and Dave will have a report during the 10:00 p.m. Thursday sportscast.

The Saints entertain the San Francisco 49ers August 12th in the Superdome at 7.  Former Ole Miss quarterback Jeremiah Masoli inked a rookie free agent deal with the 49ers on Wednesday.  He was signed as a running back.
