GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) -

For the second time in as many days, police said a troubled relationship had ended in death.  A Gautier woman, 23 year old Amanda Fallon Perkins was stabbed to death in her home in the overnight hours. In jail, the man police described as off and on her boyfriend.

Yellow Crime scene tape is still scattered around Amanda Perkins' Home in the Ocean Estates  Subdivision in Gautier. Police said early  Wednesday morning the 23-year-old was stabbed to death. Her neighbors, who woke up to the sad news couldn't believe what they heard.

"We have never had anything like this before. This has been a safe neighborhood," neighbor Devin Flowers said.

"I am just upset  we never even met  the people that were there," said Melissa Flowers.

Devin and Melissa Flowers live a few doors down from the crime scene. They said although they didn't know the victim, they hate this tragedy happened here.

"It is just really shocking and scary actually."

Police said they were responding to an assault call at Perkins' home when they walked in and found her dead.  They got a tip to start looking for her boyfriend Marius Markee Kirkland.

"They were on again and off again as it has been romantic relationship that involved children they shared," Gautier Investigator Matt Hoggatt said. "They had at some point had lived together in the same home."

Hoggatt said his department put out the call for other agencies to look for Kirkland. It wasn't long before Pascagoula police spotted his car.

"They attempted to pull him over and he ended up taking them on a high speed chase, wrecking his car."

Kirkland had to go to hospital for minor injuries from the wreck.  When the hospital released him, Police arrested Kirkland on a murder charge.

"This is serious crime in nature, and there are some more answers we want to get to provide for the family of both sides."

Kirkland is being held in Jackson County jail awaiting his initial appearance next week.
