BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - The Waveland man accused of murdering a Catholic priest was in court today to answer a probation violation charge.
Officials confirmed news from court about some of the details surrounding the shooting death Father Edward Everitt. In a statement from alleged gunman Jeremy Manieri he and the priest drank and smoked marijuana hours before the shooting.
In that statement given to Florida authorities after his arrest, Manieri also claimed he passed out. When he woke up, the defendant said Father Edwards' head was in his lap and he allegedly fondled Manieri.
A short time later, Manieri reportedly grabbed Father Ed's gun and shot him. This information was released in court today during a probation revocation hearing for Manieri.
Circuit Judge John Gargiulo sentenced Jeremy Manieri, to five years in prison for failing to register as a sex offender, which was a violation of his probation.
Manieri is charged with murder in the shooting death of Father Edward Everitt of Hammond Louisiana.
The 70-year-old priest was killed earlier this month at a Waveland beachfront retreat home used by priests.
