GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) -

A murder suspect is behind bars after a failed attempt to flee police. According to the Gautier Police Department, they received a call early Wednesday morning about an assault at Ocean Estates Subdivision in Gautier.

When officers arrived they found 23-year-old Amanda Fallon Perkins dead. Gautier investigators tried speaking to Perkins' ex-boyfriend, 23-year-old Marius Markee Kirkland, regarding Perkins' death. However, Kirkland reportedly fled to Pascagoula.

Gautier police gave the description of Kirkland's vehicle to Pascagoula police who spotted him on Hwy 90 at the 14th Street overpass. Shortly after Pascagoula police found him, he reportedly wrecked his car into a light pole.

Kirkland was arrested and charged with murder and transported to the Jackson County Adult Detention Center.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Gautier Police Department at 228-497-2486 or the Mississippi Coast Crime-Stoppers at 1-888-787-5898.
