Mississippi flood victims get help from south Mississippi

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - WLOX.com has discovered a pay it forward story that will touch your heart.

The United Way of South Mississippi held a school supply drive this month.  The donated items are being packed up and sent to Vicksburg.  Those supplies will help students who live near the Mississippi River.  As you know, their lives were turned upside down in the spring, when flood waters raced toward homes and schools along the western edge of Mississippi.

Many of the families who donated school supplies received similar assistance in the weeks after Hurricane Katrina.
