OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - For years, the land off Highway 57 sat dormant. Ocean Springs leaders purchased the property, and discussed ways to develop it into a field of dreams. But, environmental hurdles often got in the way.
Once the city cleared the roadblocks, it cleared the land. And today, a seven million dollar complex is coming out of the ground.
If you visit the site, you'll see baseball and softball diamonds that have already taken shape. You'll see sculpted dirt that will eventually become soccer fields. And everywhere you look, you'll see power poles ready to illuminate the complex.
Ocean Springs used a two percent food and beverage tax to pay for its new ballfields. As long as the weather cooperates, the complex should be completed by the end of the year.
Doug Walker has a more detailed look at what Ocean Springs is creating off Highway 57 later today on WLOX News and on WLOX.com.
