BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - A single gunshot woke neighbors at the Gates of Biloxi apartment complex on Woolmarket Road just after 5 a.m. Thursday. That's when the Biloxi Police Department received a report of an auto burglary in progress.
A short time later, an individual was located running from the area suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a citizen had confronted the subject burglarizing the car which was owned by an acquaintance he was staying with at the apartment complex.
When the owner got up to go to work she observed Blackwell inside her car. She then called for help and her friend put Blackwell at gunpoint.
A struggle ensued and one gunshot was fired injuring both individuals. They were each transported to the hospital and received medical treatment for their injuries.
Around 6:45 a.m., the Biloxi Police Department arrested Robert Lee Blackwell, 19, of Biloxi, and charged him with two counts of auto burglary.
Further investigation of the initial incident revealed that an additional vehicle had been burglarized in the area and evidence collected implicated Blackwell in that crime, as well.
Judge Albert Fountain reviewed facts, issued arrest warrants for Blackwell and set bond at $50,000 per count.
The citizen involved in the shooting was slightly injured during the confrontation. He was interviewed by investigators and has not been charged with a crime at this time.
