Clean up begins at dumpsite in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Clean up of the salvage/dump site on Old CCC Camp Road began Thursday morning. This is the road that runs east-west connecting Ocean Springs Road to Reilly Road.

Ocean Springs Mayor Connie Moran told WLOX when the city annexed in the late '90s, it was in the county and was a non-conforming use.

"It was too overwhelming for the city to clean up, and after a couple of years of back and forth with the owners, the City of Ocean Springs finally was awarded a Solid Waste Grant from MS Dept of Environmental Quality, and we bid out the job while pursuing the legal lot clearing process. Doug DeLuca won the bid for about $15,000," Moran said.

"The property is zoned residential, and so of course this operation will not be allowed to resume. The Board of Aldermen and I are pleased to finally get this settled for the betterment of the neighborhood. It was one of the worst sites in Jackson County."

Doug Walker was there as the clean up was happening. He will have the full story on WLOX News and on
