NAACP launches inquiry into police related shooting death
Jackson County NAACP President sits with Beverly's family. The organization is launching an inquiry into Beverly's death.
JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -
The president of the Jackson County NAACP, Curley Clark, is launching an inquiry into the death of Floyd Beverly Jr. The 40 year old Floyd was shot and killed earlier this month by a Pascagoula police officer.
The officer was responding to a report of a stabbing, and Beverly was a suspect. Police say that when the officer stopped Beverly, the suspect got out of a car with a gun and headed toward the officer. The police officer then shot Beverly in the chest.
The whole incident was caught on camera and was handed over to the district attorney's office to investigate.
While the Pascagoula Police chief has defended his officer's actions, members of the community have had mixed feelings about the incident.
