WAVELAND, MS (WLOX) -

Waveland Police Chief Jimmy Varnell tells WLOX.com that the man who was being questioned about Thursday's bank robbery has been arrested and charged with armed robbery.

Forty-seven year old Michael William Gardner of Bay St. Louis is being held under a $500,000 bond.

Police say around noon on Thursday, Gardner walked into the Highway 90 Waveland Hancock Bank with a crowbar in his hand.

Shortly after the Thursday bank heist, Waveland police sent out surveillance photos that showed a man with a crowbar in one hand, and a bag in his other hand. The suspect appeared to be leaping over a teller window.

Witnesses told police the suspect drove away in a tan or gold Grand Am.
