BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The weekend is here. And plenty of south Mississippians are about to head out of town for family vacations. If they're driving, they're not going to be very happy.
Gas prices are going the wrong way again. In the last seven days, AAA says a gallon of gas in Mississippi has jumped nine cents. Stations along the coast that were down to $3.25 just a couple of weeks ago are now charging customers $3.47 per gallon.
The average gallon of gas is $3.49 in the Biloxi/Gulfport/Pascagoula area. It's a penny less if you drive through the state capitol.
A year ago, gas cost Mississippi drivers $2.51, nearly a dollar less than today. To make you feel a little better, the AAA report says that exactly three years ago, a gallon of gas in this state cost $4.02.
