The Pascagoula River is one of South Mississippi's greatest resources scenically and financially. The river supports both the local seafood business and provides energy to several large companies along its banks.

New business and housing developments are slowly moving north along the banks of the river. That's why the Nature Conservancy, a non-profit organization, wants to purchase 2000 acres along the river as a natural preserve called Dearman Track.

It's located just south of the George/Greene County line and has price tag of around 1 million dollars and serve as a bridge between two current preserves. Organizers say its a small spot that must be guarded for the entire river to thrive.
