SAUCIER, MS (WLOX) - According to the Mississippi Forestry Commission the fire in Harrison County covered 80 acres and is now 95 percent contained. The cause of the fire has yet to been determined.
Firefighters from the Mississippi Forestry commission and Saucier Fire Departments are still working to put out a fire that broke out Saturday morning in Saucier.
Officials said firefighters initially had trouble getting to the fire because it started in a remote section of the woods near Pete Hickman Road.
Fire fighters dug containment lines to keep the fire from spreading. Officials said a good bit of smoke was drifting North into Stone County.
Numbers released from the Mississippi Forestry Commission stated that more than 22,000 acres of land in South Mississippi have burned in woods fires this year.
