Derek Jeter just smacked his third home run of the season. The blast tied today's Yankees/Rays game at one. But that's not the significant part of Jeter's hit. It was his 3,000th hit in the major leagues.
Jeter is the fourth youngest player to join the 3,000 hit club. And he's the first Yankee to reach that milestone.
The Captain needed two hits today to get to 3,000. He singled to left in the first. And then, he ripped a home run to left of Tampa pitcher David Price.
