41st Army Band performs in Ocean Springs

OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - Patriotic music filled the air in Ocean Springs Monday morning as the 41st Army Band of the Mississippi National Guard performed a free concert. The program lasted an hour at the Mary C. O'Keefe Cultural Center. And more than 50 people showed up to listen to a long list of Fourth of July musical favorites.

The 40 member band is based in Jackson, and travels the state and country showing their talents. The best news is this will not be a one time event.

"We think that it will probably become an annual event at the Mary C, an Army band of Independence day concerts on July 4th each year," said Mary C. Director Eric Zala. "Already, we've got folks showing up over an hour early to check out the free to the public concert. We're delighted."

When not playing music, members of the band also perform other military duties. In fact, several of them were deployed on the coast in the days and weeks after Hurricane Katrina to help in our recovery efforts.
