BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Beaches are crowded this Fourth of July holiday.
Many of the beach side parking bays were nearly full on this holiday Monday. We talked with several large groups who've come to the sand to celebrate. They were busy setting up tents and firing up the grill. When asked why they came to the beach, many mentioned just one word: Relax.
Of course, the beach is where Harrison and Jackson County officials are letting families shoot their Independence Day fireworks. So as the sun begins to set, you can expect the sand to get even more crowded. But the sunbathers will be replaced by rocket launchers.
If you shoot fireworks on the beach, please be mindful of the least tern areas. Audubon officials are hoping the bird nesting areas will not be bombarded by fireworks.
In Ocean Springs, both Front Beach and East Beach will be open for fireworks displays. Fireworks on East Beach will be allowed from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.
