In a WLOX News exclusive, Pete Halat says despite what people may think, he had no role in the 1987 murders of Vincent and Margaret Sherry. JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
A Brandon teen charged with murder may not stay free on bond for long. That is if the Hinds County District Attorney has his way. Robert Schuler-Smith said he plans to ask a municipal judge to revoke 18 year old Deryl Dedmon's bond. The teen is accused of killing 49 year old James Craig Anderson in a hit and run last weekend. His bond has been set at $50,000.
Pastor Brian Richardson of Castle Woods Baptist Church in Brandon came forward with new information. He said Dedmon ran a two year "campaign of harassment" against his son who attends Brandon High School. Richardson claimed Dedmon and a group of other boys used intimidation, derogatory statements on sexual orientation and racial slurs against his son and friends. The pastor brought it the attention of Brandon police and school officials.
"I thought it was obviously painfully clear that Deryl was going to injure someone severely or possibly kill someone. I believe that if he doesn't get some help, if he is not taken off the streets, that it is going to happen again," said Richardson.
District Attorney Schuler-Smith is set to discuss Dedmon's bond with a municipal judge next week. 18 year old John Rice has also been charged with murder in this case.
