JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Bond has been set for a Rankin County teen accused in a weekend fatal hit and run.

Eighteen-year-old Deryl Paul Dedmon of Brandon is charged with murder. He made his initial appearance in Jackson Municipal Court this morning. The judge set his bond at 50-thousand dollars.

A sister of the victim, 49-Year-Old James Craig Anderson told WLBT News, the family is outraged at the low bond, and are seeking legal help.

Police say Dedmon struck and killed 49-year-old James Craig Anderson with his vehicle near the entrance of the Metro Inn, on Ellis Avenue, around 5:30 Sunday morning.

Investigators say the men were seen talking near the motel entrance just before that.

Witnesses told police that Anderson then walked away, and Dedmon drove onto the shoulder of the road, running him over.

Craig was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dedmon bonded out Tuesday afternoon.

Jackson attorney Winston Thompson III said he plans to hold a press conference Wednesday morning, answering questions about Mr. Anderson, and providing a picture to the media.
