Women sentenced for transporting heroin

HATTIESBURG, MS (AP) - A federal judge has sentenced two women to five years in prison for transporting more than 10 pounds of heroin through Jones County last year.

On Thursday, U.S. District Court Judge Keith Starrett also ordered Stephanie Cespedes and Jennifer Martinez to pay a $3,000 fine.

The Hattiesburg American reports the women pleaded guilty to one count each of interstate travel with intent to distribute a controlled substance in February.

Starrett credited Cespedes and Martinez with the time already served since their November arrest.
