GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The Sandy Point is now out of the waters of the Mississippi Sound shipping channel.

Crews with Inland Salvage lifted the stern section of the sunken fishing boat this weekend and placed it onto a transport barge. It's now sitting in the Gulfport Harbor. Just last week, crews lifted the bow section.

Three men died on the Sandy Point when it collided with a cargo ship last month.

Ben Landry, spokesman for Omega Protein, the company that owns the vessel, said this was the last part of the salvage operation of the Sandy Point.

U.S. Coast Guard investigators are restricting access to the wreckage until their investigators are finished.
