OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - There were some anxious moments Monday afternoon when a man brought two old mortar rounds to the Ocean Springs Central Fire Station. The man told firefighters he found the mortar rounds in a debris pile in St. Martin.
The Biloxi Bomb Squad was called in and retrieved the mortars in just a few minutes. They were determined to be training rounds, and posed no danger, but firefighters were taking not taking any chances.
"Well, we moved the fire trucks out of the building because, obviously, they are pretty expensive, and also we could continue to take care of our response area. It wouldn't do any good to have our fire trucks caught up here in the station," Battalion Chief Crispus Medley said.
Everything was back to normal in about a half an hour.
