JONES COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -
A statewide manhunt for a convicted killer ended in Laurel Monday, just before noon. The Jones County Swat Team tracked down escaped inmate Mark Kee Brown in an apartment complex.
Investigator Justin Vickers with the U.S. Marshal's Office in Gulfport said the Laurel Police Department and several other local and statewide agencies also assisted in the manhunt.
This is the third time Brown has escaped from a Mississippi prison. In 2008, Brown was one of the inmates that used a door to smash through a cell block wall and break out of the Harrison County Adult Detention Center. He was captured three days later.
Before that, in 2000, Brown escaped from the same facility with four other inmates. That time, he was on the run for 18 days.
Brown is serving a life sentence for the capital murder of a D'Iberville resident. Larry Darnell Turner was shot to death during a home invasion in 2005. Last week, a state Court of Appeals upheld his conviction.
Prison officials have not yet said how Brown escaped.
