Sheriff: Fake checks may have been cashed on the coast

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Do the businesses "Ports America Gulfport, Inc" or "Dailey Equipment Company" sound familiar? If someone recently wrote you a check from one of these businesses, Harrison County investigators want to talk to you. It turns out, these aren't real businesses at all.

Harrison County Sheriff Melvin Brisolara said his department recently got a tip that a group of people were on the coast to cash counterfeit checks at Walmart stores.

The information led to a traffic stop in Gulfport where Tammy Lynn Hart, 46, of Virginia was arrested. She's charged with four counts of Possession of a Counterfeit Instrument with Intent to Utter, which is a felony.

Investigators believe Hart recruited others to cash the counterfeit checks for her.

If you've seen one of those checks, or have information that could help authorities, call the Sheriff's Department at (228) 896-0678 or Crimestoppers at 1-877-787-5898.

Hart is being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center under a $100,000 bond.
